Taxonomy families




Ø Selected Families Of Dicotyledons
Bentham and Hooker discussed 163 families under Dicotyledons in their Genera Plantarum while Armen Takhtajan divided Magnoliatae into 361 families in his book entitled Flowering plants: Orgin and Dispersal.Thorne treated Dicotyledoneae as a subclass of class Angiospermae and discussed 297 families under this subclass.

Ø Dicotyledons
 The dicotyledons include all those angiosperms in which the embryo possesses 2 cotyledons,leaves with reticulate venation and vascular bundles are open and arranged in one or more rings.These plants has cambium,may be woody,or herbaceous.Usually have pentamerous flowers.Bentham and Hooker divided the class Dicotyledons into three subclass,viz.polypatalae, gamapatalae, monochlamydeae.

Ø Monocotyledons
Monocotyledons characterised by the presence of one cotyledons,fibrous and adventitious root, narrow leaves with parallel veins ,herbaceous stem,irregular distribution of vascular bundles in the stem, trimerous flowers.Bentham and Hooker divided Monocotyledons into 7 series such as Microspermae, Epigynae, Coronarieae,  Calycineae, Nudiflorae ,Apocarpeae, Glumaceae.
